Connecting Science-Society Network for Sustainable Development lists 25 members from Albania, Kosovo, Austria, Germany and Ireland. The network consists of 12 higher education institutions and 13 non-governmental organizations involved in education, environment, human rights activities, policy proposals, social welfare, etc. A full list of our members, along with a short description of their main activities is listed below:

The University of Graz (KFUG), which was founded in 1585, is Austria’s second oldest university and one of the largest in the country. Many excellent scientists, amongst them six Nobel laureates, have taught and researched here. As a comprehensive university, the University of Graz regards itself as an international institution for education and research committed to research and teaching for the benefit of society. It is our policy to maintain freedom in research and teaching, which permanently commits us to social, political and technological developments. Increasing flexibilisation and globalisation are the essential frame conditions. The studies and scientific disciplines are assigned to six faculties: Catholic Theology; Law; Social and Economic Sciences; Humanities; Natural Sciences; Environmental & Regional Sciences and Education.

As a modern scientific institution, the University of Graz is responsible for top-ranked research at the international level. Research core areas include Brain and Behaviour , Heterogeneity and Cohesion , Europe’s Cultural History and its Interpretation , Learning – Education – Knowledge , Modeling and Simulation , Molecular Enzymology and Physiology , Environment and Global Change . The main interdisciplinary focus “South Eastern Europe” - unique in the German speaking countries - is the result of decades of collaboration with institutions in this region.

The European University of Tirana (UET) is a leading private higher education institution in Albania offering quality teaching and research in various social science disciplines: economics, politics, law, education and communication. The Universum College was established in March 2005, in Prishtina, the capital city, and Ferizaj, the second largest and one of the most economically developed cities in Kosovo. Universum College thrives on providing high quality, accessible and affordable educational opportunities to a Kosovar and international student body through teaching excellence, lifelong learning, applied research and partnership building, thus, preparing students to be thoughtful, responsible and successful citizens who support the economic development of Kosovo and the region. Currently, Universum College offers four Bachelor level and one Master level programme. With the ever-increasing emphasis in globalization, Universum College has enshrined internationalization and regionalization into its development perspectives. Recently, Eduniveral ranked Universum College in Top 1000 of the best Business Schools in the world, an award seldom given to institutions younger than ten-years old.

The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), established in 1872, is an education and research institution that mainly focuses on the domains of living conditions, healthy food and sustainable development. With its wide range of areas of expertise it is the task of BOKU to contribute significantly to the protection of life resources for future generations. With a connection between natural sciences, engineering and economics, BOKU is trying to deepen the knowledge for an ecological, social and economic sound future. As the first Austrian University, BOKU signed the Declaration of the "Higher Education Sustainability Initiative of Rio+20" in 2012.

This project is assigned to the Centre for Global Change and Sustainability (gW/N). The centre networks between institutes, departments, platforms and initiatives at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, in their research and teaching in the areas of global change and sustainability.

The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) was established on November 1st, 1951, and actually is a unique center providing under-graduate and graduate education as well as scientific research, training and extension services in the field of agriculture and food. Currently the university has an academic staff of 291 people and 16670 (both full-time and part-time) students. AUT is made up of the following 5 principal faculties and a subsidiary: Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness, Faculty of Biotechnology and Food, Faculty of Forestry Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Lushnja based subsidiary.

The mission of AUT is geared towards professional education and scientific research in the field of agriculture, food and environment. The attainment of this mission is made possible through production of top quality of both agriculture and livestock-related produce, the prudent and smooth administration of land, water and air as well as the synchronized utilization of both green and blue space functions.

AUT offers BSc, MSc and doctoral diploma and possesses modern Research facilities. AUT has been at the forefront of the implementation of Bologna Process and has established cooperation links with numerous universities throughout Europe and beyond.

The University Haxhi Zeka (UPHZ) was founded in 2011. The new founded University inherited to units of University of Prishtina that were operating in Peja: Faculty of Business and Faculty of Law. Now in the University of Haxhi Zeka there are five Faculties: Faculty of Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty for Management in Tourism and Hostility, Faculty of Agro-Business, and Faculty of Arts. The University Haxhi Zeka is established as an autonomous higher education institution for research and science, which will issue diplomas and science grades up to the level of doctorate (PhD). Our institution is committed to advance teaching and research in Kosovo society. The University of Haxhi Zeka is dedicate to promote democracy and maintain freedom in teaching and research.

The Faculty of Business is descendent of the Trade School that was found in 1969. Afterwards this school joined University of Prishtine and lately became part of University of Haxhi Zeka. In the Faculty of Business there are two department: Business Administration (in two languages Albanian and Bosnian) and Finance and Accounting. It is the biggest Faculty in our University, 40% of the students are enrolled in our Faculty. We organize teaching for Bachelor and Master degrees.

The University of Limerick (UL) was established in 1972 and is located along the River Shannon, on a 80 hectares site in the 240 hectares National Technological Park at Castletroy, 5 km from Limerick city centre. The University has currently in excess of 11,000 full-time undergraduate students and 1,500 part-time students. There are also over 800 research postgraduates and 1,300 taught postgraduate students at the University. The Co-operative Education programme allocates all students with an 8-month work placement as part of their degree. This was the first such programmes in the state. The University of Limerick is ranked as among the world's top 30 green universities and has an established reputation for being Ireland's leading university in industry-led research. This has resulted in significant research commercialisation activities and collaboration between leading researchers and industry.

The POLIS University (U_POLIS) is an ambitious institution, quality research-led university, supporting a focused range of core disciplines in the field of architecture, urban planning, design and environmental management.

U_POLIS has signed the Bologna’s Magna Charta Universitatum and has several affiliations and partnerships including the EAAE, AESOP, ECLAS, several universities of the EU, a joint Master Degree Diploma with IHS/ Erasmus Rotterdam and a joint PhD Program with Ferrara University. The university is comprised of a Research and Development Institute (POLIS IKZH) and two faculties, namely the Faculty of Architecture and Art Design- FAD, the Faculty of Planning, Environment and Urban Management-FPMMU.

Through applied and scientific research POLIS develops and promotes “scientific excellence and innovation” (Scientific journal Forum A+P, Habitat Magazine and MAD magazine). The Riinvest College (RIINVEST) was established in 2007 from members of Riinvest Institute, a wellknown research institute established in 1995, and through partnership with a group of Kosovars engaged in teaching and research in Austrian universities and institutions in the field of software engineering and telecommunications. It was licenced as University from Ministry of Education Science and technology in 2007.

Riinvest College offers following programmes: BA Business Management (with the three profiles Economics, Managment and Banking and Finances), BSc Software Engineering, MA Managment, MA Financial Markets and Banking and Msc Software Engineering. Riinvest has also been validated to offer the following franchise awards of Staffordshire University which were approved by KAA: BA Business Managemnet, BA Business Management and Entrepreneurship, MBA General and MBA Finance.

Riinvest College is a vibrant environment where teaching and research are linked through staff and student engagement in research projects. It has cooperation with different government institutions, financial institituions and NGO-s where students are placed for interships. Riinvest is known for developing creativity and entrepreneurship and research skills which ensure high employability of its graduates. Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës (UAMD) is a public higher education institution established by the Decision No. 801 the Council of Ministers on 20.12.2005. It is one of the eleven public universities in Albania. Today in the sixth year of its academic life, Aleksandër Moisiu University has about ten thousand students (9454) and 7 main units such as: Faculty of Business, Faculty of Education, Faculty of information Technology, Faculty of Political Juridical Sciences, Faculty of Professional Studies, Faculty of Integrated Studies with Practice (FASTIP), and Peshkopia Branch, as its main unit. It operated in accordance to the Bologna Process, with program studies expressed in ECTS.

The Department of Political Sciences is one of the three departments of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Law. It has 13 lecturers specialized in different disciplines like: political sciences, journalism, international relations, history and sociology.

The Institute for Development Policy (INDEP) is a research institute and an advocacy centre established in 2011 with the goal of providing independent research-based policy solutions to countries of South-East Europe. The institute is an association of policy analysts, researchers and civil society activists, who are committed to provide regional policy guidance to countries aiming Euro-Atlantic integration. In Kosovo, where it is based, the institute has a special focus on strengthening democratic governance, enabling sustainable development, fostering regional cooperation and plays the role of a public policy watchdog. INDEP’s mission is to strengthen and guide sustainable socio-political and economic development based on the principles of democracy and democratic values. INDEP’s framework of activities is based on three different yet interrelated programmes which serve as the pillars of the institute’s operational structure.

Despite a short time since its establishment, INDEP has acquired the status of one of the most influential civil society actors in policy-making process in Kosovo. Our independent approach to policy research, the quality of our publications as well as our direct engagement with the Kosovo Assembly has enabled us to extend our influence particularly in domains of democratization and economic development.
